Most stain-removal products are fairly costly and are some of the most toxic household products out there. Aside from parabens and sulfates, most of those products also contain artificial fragrances and colorings. Below, I have comprised a basic (although not all-inclusive) list of natural ways to remove stains from your laundry.

NOTE: Always treat stains from the back to prevent pushing them further into the fabric.

Just for reading this post, I have made all of you a quick-reference guide that you can print out and keep in your laundry room. Just click the download link below the infographic!

  • Dingy whites: Soak the clothing item in a 50/50 mix of water and hydrogen peroxide for about 30 minutes, then throw it in the washing machine, add in 2 cup of hydrogen peroxide, then wash.
  • Protein-based stains like vomit, feces, egg, glue, gelatin, urine or blood: Soak the item in COLD water for 30 minutes, then wash with cold water. Add 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide to the wash as well.
  • Oil or grease: Cover the stain with baking soda to absorb the extra oil/grease, and let sit for 3 minutes. Soak in undiluted white vinegar for 3 minutes, scrub with dish soap, and then wash immediately.
  • Wine: Soak stain for 15 minutes in a 50/50 mix of water and hydrogen peroxide, then wash.
  • Coffee or tea: Immediately soak the stain in hot water. For a dried stain, scrub with a paste made of water and Borax, then wash immediately.
  • Grass: Soak the stain in a 50/50 mix of water and hydrogen peroxide for
5 minutes. Scrub with a bit of dish soap, then wash.
