I have tried many different types of coasters, most of them backed with a slice of cork, but I have not used any as useful or effective as those that are crocheted from cotton yarn. These are double-sided, making them extra thick and absorbent. They are quick to work up, and make great gifts. What You Need:
0.6 oz of medium weight (4) cotton yarn 5mm crochet hook yarn needle scissors Abbreviations: ch: chain sl st: slip stitch dc: double crochet sc: single crochet Side #1: Round 1: Ch 4, then sl st into the first ch to form a circle. Round 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), then make 14 dc into the circle, and sl st to the top of the first dc. Ch 1. Round 3: 2 sc into the same stitch, and in each stitch around. Sl st to the first sc. Ch 2. Round 4: 2 dc into the same stitch. 1 dc into the next stitch. *2 dc into the next stitch, 1 dc into the next.* Repeat between * and *, all the way around. Sl st to the top of the first dc. Ch 1. Round 5: 2 sc into the same stitch, 1 sc into the next stitch. 1 sc into the next stitch. *2 sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch.* Repeat between * and *, all the way around. Finish off. Side #2: Repeat rounds 1-4. Round 5: The same as round 5 above, but do not sl st to the first sc. Place both circles together, wrong sides facing each other. Insert your hook into the first sc, and into any of the sc stitches from the first circle made and make a sl st. Sl st both circles together, all the way around, and finish off. Weave in your ends, and you’re finished.
