An easy crochet beanie/hat pattern is so incredibly versatile. It can be decorated in so many ways, and even given a completely different look depending upon the kind of yarn used (solid, striped, variegated).

If you want a video tutorial, please scroll to the bottom of this post.

This is the pattern for a medium adult-sized beanie. As I mention in the video tutorial, please give me a bit of time, and I'll update this post with patterns for other sizes.

yarn needle
scissors

Abbreviations:
hdc: half double crochet
inc: increase (work 2 stitches into the same stitch)

(We will be working in continuous rounds.)
Pattern:

Round 2: 2 hdc in each stitch around (16)
