 An easy crochet beanie/hat pattern is so incredibly versatile. It can be decorated in so many ways, and even given a completely different look depending upon the kind of yarn used (solid, striped, variegated). As I mention in the video tutorial, please give me a bit of time, and I'll update this post with patterns for other sizes. Items Needed: worsted weight yarn (4 weight) 5mm crochet hook yarn needle scissors Abbreviations: hdc: half double crochet inc: increase (work 2 stitches into the same stitch) sc: single crochet slst: slip stitch ch: chain (We will be working in continuous rounds.) Pattern: Round 1: Work 8 hdc into a magic circle (8) Round 2: 2 hdc in each stitch around (16) Round 3: hdc, inc. Repeat all the way around. (24) Round 4: 2 hdc, inc. Repeat all the way around. (32) Round 5: 3 hdc, inc. Repeat all the way around. (40) Round 6: 4 hdc, inc. Repeat all the way around. (48) Round 7: 5 hdc, inc. Repeat all the way around. (56) Round 8: 6 hdc, inc. Repeat all the way around. (64) Round 9: 7 hdc. inc. Repeat all the way around. (72) Rounds 10-19: hdc in each stitch around. (72) To finish off, sc in the next stitch, slst in the next. Ch 1, and pull yarn all the way through. Work away your ends.

 This easy slipper pattern is one passed down to me from my grandmother. I do not know where she first came across it, but it was well used. She used 2 strands of acrylic yarn held together, but those slippers were VERY slippery on the bottom. I have found that Bernat Blanket yarn is not. If you need help, I highly suggest you check out my video tutorial at the bottom of this post. What You'll Need: 9mm (size M) crochet hook roughly 5 ounces of yarn (for a size women's 8/9 slipper) yarn needle scissors optional: an ounce or so of faux fur yarn for the trim Sizing Options: I wear a size 9 shoe. This slipper pattern fits me just a tad bit snug when I first put it on, but as it is worn, the stitches loosen just a little and it is perfect. I would make the pattern as written to fit a women's size 8/9. For larger or smaller sizes, just continue working round #3 until it is the correct length. This section should fit from your toes, to the front of your ankle, where your foot meets your leg. Once you have the correct length, begin round 12. Continue round 12 until it reaches the heel. Once you have the length you need for the heel, work round 16. Important Notes: We will be working in continuous rounds. Do not turn your work unless the pattern says so. The chain stitch at the beginning of a round/row does not count as a stitch. Abbreviations: Ch: chain HDC: half double crochet Sl st: slip stitch Sts: stitches Hdc2tog: half double crochet two together (half double crochet decrease) Pattern: Round 1: Magic circle, and ch 1. Work 10 hdc into the circle, and pull closed. Join to the first hdc with a sl st. (10) Round 2: Ch 1, work 2 hdc into each st around. Join to the first hdc with a sl st. (20) Rounds 3-11: Ch 1, hdc into each st around. Join to 1st hdc with a sl st. Rounds 12-15: Ch 1, hdc in the first 15 sts. Turn. Round 16: Ch 1, hdc in the first 5 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in next st, hdc2tog, hdc in the remaining 5 sts. Finish off, leaving a long tail. Use the tail to sew up the back of the slipper. Work away the ends. Make sure to also work away the end from your beginning magic circle. OPTIONAL: If you want to add a trim around the top, use a bit of faux fur yarn. Attach it to the back of the slipper, and single crochet in every stitch around.  I love designing patterns that are pretty enough for gift-giving, yet easy enough for beginners to make. This pattern is designed to fit an adult. It will be slightly snug at first, but will stretch with use. Chain 65 (make sure this chain isn't too tight) Row 1: SC in the 2nd ch from the hook, and all the way across. (64) Row 2: Ch 2, and turn. Working in the FLO, HDC into the 1st stitch, and every stitch across. (64)  Row 3: Ch 2, and turn. Working in the BLO, HDC into the 1st stitch, and every stitch across. (64) Row 4: Ch 1, and turn. Working into the FLO, SC into the 1st stitch, and every stitch across. (64) Row 5: Ch 2, and turn. Skip the 1st stitch, and DC into the next stitch. Working in front of the DC you just made, DC into the skipped stitch. Skip the next empty stitch, and DC into the next stitch. Working in front of the DC you just made, DC into the skipped stitch. Repeat this all way across. (32 crisscrosses)  Row 6: Ch 1, and turn. Working into the BLO, SC into the 1st stitch, and every stitch across. (64) Row 7: Ch 2, and turn. Working in the BLO, HDC into the 1st stitch, and every stitch across. (64) Row 8: Ch 2, and turn. Working in the FLO, HDC into the 1st stitch, and every stitch across. (64) Row 9: Ch 1, and turn. Working into the BLO, SC into the 1st stitch, and every stitch across. (64) Finish off, leaving a long tail to be used for sewing the ends together. Lay the project down, right side facing up. The right side is the one with all of the beautiful ridges. Fold each side in half, so it looks like the letter 'C'.  Fit each side into each other.  Using the yarn needle, stitch through all 4 layers of your work, from one end, to the other. Work your way back across to ensure strong stitching.  Work away all of your ends, turn your work right side out, and enjoy!  |
